Tasting Menu Reservations:
Reservations are currently available 5 months in advance. Please note that the whole table must dine from the same menu when choosing from The Core or The Signature menu.
The Sunday Feast features succulent meat as well as a delicious non-meat option too, alongside all the traditional Sunday roast accompaniments we know and love, but with an Oldstead twist or two! It’s served every Sunday from 12.00pm – 4.00pm
Summer Sunday Feast – July to September
Barbecued Herb Fed Chicken | £75 per person
Autumn Sunday Feast – October – 15th November
Salt Aged Roasted Pork Loin | £75 per person
Dietaries:
We can offer a vegetarian alternative to our Sunday Feast Menu. Just mention this in the booking notes when you make your reservation.
We can also cater for a variety of other dietary requirements. Please email the team on enquiries@rootsyork.co.uk to speak to them about your individual requirements.
We require card details to secure all bookings. In the event of a cancellation within 72 hours of the date and time of the table reservation, we will charge a cancellation fee of £50 per person. On a Saturday evening we charge a cancellation fee of £100 per person. If we are to able to re-let the booking, the charge will not apply. Please note we do not accept Amex.

When making a booking, please inform us if you are vegetarian or have any dietary requirements as we need to know in advance so that we can prepare an appropriate menu. With notice, we can adapt to most dietary requirements but as our food includes dairy products throughout, we are not able to cater for guests with severe lactose allergies or those who require a dairy-free diet. However, for those who cannot eat cow products, we are able to prepare a menu containing ingredients from sheep or goats instead.
Due to the layout of our kitchens we are unable to offer a menu which is safe for coeliacs, however we are able to offer gluten free options for guests who have a gluten intolerance.

Allergies
Whilst we follow best practice at all times, we do like to highlight the fact that all the dishes we serve are produced in an environment where allergens are also prepared and cooked.
We cannot guarantee that the environment will be completely allergen-free.
We offer 2 Tasting Menus which perfectly showcase techniques the team work meticulously to develop to allow us to offer a pantry full of truly unique ingredients that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
The menus tend to evolve across the seasons as various produce becomes available to us from our garden and farm.
The Core Menu includes ingredients that have been fermented, candied, cured, pickled or dried for weeks or months. It’s priced at £110pp and is available Wednesday, Thursday & Friday evenings and Friday & Saturday lunches.
The Signature Menu goes one step further and highlights produce we’ve preserved over many years or even decades, meaning you can have a taste of what Oldstead was like all those years ago. It’s available Wednesday through to Saturday at £165.

A discretionary service charge of 12.5% will be added to your bill, this is shared between all staff.

Please note that vouchers for The Black Swan, The Abbey Inn and Made in Oldstead cannot be used at Roots.
We welcome guests looking for pre theatre dining in York before shows at the Grand Opera House York, York Theatre Royal, and York Barbican.
We recommend joining us for our tasting menu on Saturday lunchtime or Sundays for our popular Sunday feast experience. Please allow plenty of time before your performance to enjoy your dining experience.
We do not have on-site parking, however, Marygate car park is located directly behind Roots. This offers 24-hour parking with daytime rates from £4.00 per hour and a flat charge for evenings from 6pm to midnight. Additional parking can be found at Bootham Row (5 mins) or Union Terrace (10 mins).
The restaurant at Roots is located on the ground floor along with an accessible toilet.
External access is via a small temporary ramp. Please let us know in advance if you will be requiring the ramp.
If you or your guest use a wheelchair, please advise if you or your guest would prefer to remain in the wheelchair, or transfer to our seating for the meal. This will allow the team to allocate the most appropriate table for your reservation.
We offer tables that can cater for up to 6 guests. These can be booked online.
We can also accommodate up to 8 guests by combining tables on certain midweek services. You can email the team on info@rootsyork.co.uk for further information and to check availability.
There is no dress code so please dress as smart or as casual as you like.
We are committed to providing a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for everyone. As such, we have a zero-tolerance policy for any antisocial behaviour, including behaviour directed toward other guests or members of our team.
Disruptive, aggressive, or disrespectful conduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances. We reserve the right to refuse service or ask individuals to leave the premises if their behaviour negatively impacts others, without refund.

We welcome children over 10 years old in the restaurant at Roots. We do not offer a children’s menu so children would be expected to dine from the full tasting menu or Sunday Feast Menu at the same price.
We are unable to allow dogs, apart from assistance dogs, in the restaurant at Roots.
If you need transport it is advisable to pre-book in advance. The tasting menu will take around three and a half hours to enjoy.
