In the event of a cancellation within 48 hours of the arrival time, we will keep the full deposit as a cancellation charge. If we can re-let the booking, we will refund the deposit. For a reduction of numbers within 48 hours of the arrival time, we will keep the deposit of the cancelled places as a cancellation charge. We will only accept cancellations by email. In the event of a cancellation outside of 48 hours before the arrival time, we will refund the full deposit.

We offer a sharing plates concept. You can either choose as many dishes as you like or just leave it to us and we will serve our selection of sharing plates – The Roots Feast.

We have no set date for a “full menu change” as we do not change the whole menu at once. The menu tends to evolve across the seasons as various produce becomes available to us. Especially through the summer months, as it depends on our garden and farm to grow enough produce to a high standard before we can add a new dish to the menu.

Yes, we can offer private dining for 10- 13 guests. You can check availability and make a booking here

Please note that the Private Dining Room is located on the first floor with access via staircase only. Therefore it may be unsuitable for guests with mobility issues.

 

In the event of a cancellation within 7 days of the arrival date, we will keep the full deposit as a cancellation charge. If we can re-let the booking, we will refund the deposit. We will only accept cancellations by email. In the event of a cancellation outside of 7 days of the arrival date, we will refund the full deposit.

When making a booking, please inform us of any dietary requirements so we can prepare an appropriate menu for you. With notice, we can adapt the menu for most dietary requirements.

Allergies

Whilst we follow best practice at all times, we do like to highlight the fact that all the dishes we serve are produced in an environment where allergens are also prepared and cooked.

We cannot guarantee that the environment will be completely allergen free.

We require a £25 deposit per person at the time of booking.

All reservations will have the table for two hours. We may require the table back after this time. You are very welcome to enjoy post-dining drinks in the bar.

We are closed on a Tuesday. We serve lunch 12pm – 2pm and dinner 5.30pm – 8.30pm Wednesday – Monday.

We do accept walk-ins as long as we have availability for that service. However, our booking system is live and if you find we have availability on-line, even at the last minute, please do book straight away as the booking might be taken up by another guest before you arrive.

We do not have on-site parking, however Marygate car park is located directly behind Roots. This offers 24 hour parking with daytime rates of £2.30 per hour and a flat £2 charge for evenings from 6pm to midnight. Please allow additional time to find parking facilities as Marygate is currently operating at a reduced capacity. Additional parking can be found at Bootham Row (5 mins) or Union Terrace (10 mins).

The restaurant at Roots is located on the ground floor along with an accessible toilet. External access is via a small ramp. The bar area and private dining room are on the first floor with internal access via a staircase only.

Unfortunately, we do not have any accommodation at Roots.

If you need transport it is advisable to pre-book in advance.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate babies or children under five years old within the restaurant. We do not have a separate children’s menu.

 

Unfortunately we are not able to welcome dogs or pets in the bar or restaurant.
