Roots York now offers a brand new tasting menu, rather than its original sharing plates format.
Our menu adopts a different style to reflect each of the growing groups Tommy and the team follow: The Preserving Season, The Hunger Gap and The Time of Abundance.
With these, the dishes change as the availability of ingredients come and go. We have no set dates for this and we never change the whole menu at once. Instead, the menu evolves as different produce from our Oldstead farm becomes available to us.
We have a menu for every occasion. Our tasting menu offers a selection of courses that Tommy and the team believe best showcases the current harvest from the farm, alongside produce that’s been preserved throughout the year. Or for those with smaller appetites or limited time, a shorter lunch menu is also available from Thursday to Saturday. Both the lunch and tasting menus can be enjoyed with an optional drinks package, served alongside courses.
And for Sunday lunch lovers we offer a “twist” on the traditional roast, serving the best salt-aged meats or beautiful fish with Yorkshire Puddings and roasted vegetables from the farm in Oldstead. Every week we serve a new, unique menu featuring our best seasonal produce.
The informal 'feasting' style of the Roots menu demands a wine list with variety and flexibility. Expect to find exceptional wines made by small independent producers alongside rare classics and innovative exclusive blends. You can even try every white and red wine by the glass or carafe!
Enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the upstairs bar with views overlooking the City Walls and Museum Gardens. Cocktails and homemade soft drinks explore the abundance of flavours both fresh and preserved from our farm and garden back in Oldstead. The range of homemade liqueurs, bespoke distillates and beers are well worth a try!
