The Roots Sunday Feast is our celebration of the great British Sunday lunch, reimagined through the seasonal cooking that defines Roots York. Inspired by the changing harvests of Yorkshire and the produce from our Tommy Banks’ family farm in Oldstead, each feast showcases the finest ingredients at their peak, transformed into a generous sharing experience designed to be enjoyed around the table.
Served every Sunday, the menu brings together beautifully roasted meats, exceptional seasonal vegetables and carefully crafted accompaniments, all prepared with the thoughtful, ingredient-led approach synonymous with Tommy Banks and the team at Roots. Whether you’re searching for the finest Sunday lunch in York, an elevated Sunday roast or a memorable dining experience in one of York’s leading Michelin-starred restaurants, the Roots Sunday Feast offers a relaxed yet refined way to end the week.
Roots is open on Sundays serving a set Sunday Feast Menu between 12.00pm and 4.00pm.

Our current Summer Sunday Feast celebrates the abundance of the season with a lighter interpretation of the traditional Sunday roast, showcasing the finest Yorkshire produce at its peak. Expect vibrant dishes such as Sungold Tomato Salad with whipped ricotta and hazelnut, BBQ herb-fed chicken served alongside charred gem lettuce with apple mint and pickled onion, and grilled summer vegetable fricassee scented with lemon verbena.
The much-loved Sunday essentials remain, including crisp roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and rich seasonal gravy, with the option to add succulent braised chicken thigh to your Yorkshire pudding. To finish, a delicate Strawberry and Apple Marigold Pavlova captures the flavours of the British summer.
Available throughout July, August and September, the Summer Sunday Feast also includes thoughtfully crafted vegetarian and pescatarian menus, alongside a carefully curated selection of seasonal cocktails and wines to complement every course.

As autumn arrives, our Sunday Feast turns to the rich, comforting flavours of the season, celebrating the very best of Yorkshire produce with a menu designed for long, leisurely Sundays. Expect warming dishes such as Potato Velouté with Smoked Haddock and Aged Killeen, Steak Tartare with Horseradish Cream and Senshyu Onion, and Oldstead Charcuterie with sourdough and wild garlic honey butter.
At the heart of the feast, Salt-Aged Roasted Pork Loin is served with Bramley Apple Butter, alongside Sunday favourites including Pork Dripping Roast Potatoes, Yorkshire Pudding, Cauliflower Cheese with Rollright & Mustard and Herb-Infused Pork Gravy. Seasonal vegetables include roasted hispi cabbage with lovage and preserved wild garlic, and damson-glazed Pablo beetroots with nasturtium and hazelnut. To finish, Comice Pear with Dark Chocolate and Woodruff Caramel offers an elegant autumnal finale.
